Two quotes is fewer than I’d recommend, and it worked out because both estimates agreed on my volume. When two companies independently size your move the same way, the number is probably right. When they don’t, that’s your signal to get a third.
Pickup day
Mayzlin called 48 hours ahead to confirm parking and loading details and gave me an arrival window of 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The next day they called again and narrowed it to 11 to 11:30.
They arrived at 11:15. Their speed and efficiency impressed me straight away, and so did something I hadn’t expected: they inspected my packing and repacked several boxes that didn’t meet their standard. That’s where my $100 in extra supplies came from. I’d rather pay it and have things arrive whole, and I’ll admit my packing was the reason.
The painting is what really won me over. I watched them build it into a specialty box and wrap it in bubble wrap and blankets. Nobody had to ask them to do it properly.
The whole load took just under three hours. I’d paid a $780 deposit to book, handed over $1,000 in cash on the day, and the remaining $1,120 was due on delivery. Before they left, the movers gave me their names and a six-day delivery window.
Delivery day
They stayed in close contact while my things were on the road. I was anxious to have everything back, because my new job was about to start and I didn’t want to be dealing with a move at the same time. Mayzlin were patient with me, gave me updates, and called with a firm delivery time as soon as they had one.
My things arrived on day five of the six-day window. I rated timeliness a 4 rather than a 5, and I want to be honest about why: they beat their own window and I simply wanted my belongings faster. Most interstate contracts allow up to 30 days. Five is not a complaint, it’s impatience, and the fix was available to me. Mayzlin had offered expedited delivery and I’d said no.
They unloaded everything, unwrapped it, and put the boxes in the right rooms. Everything arrived in pristine condition, the painting included. They’d explained every extra charge as it came up and why it was necessary, so nothing on the final bill was a surprise.
Final thoughts
Here’s how I rated Mayzlin on a scale of 1 to 5: communication 5, timeliness 4, quote accuracy 5, and overall experience 5.
Nothing about this move surprised me except how smoothly it went. I’ve had moves that took far longer, cost three times as much, and damaged my things. This one came in $100 over a $2,800 quote, arrived early inside its window, and broke nothing.
Two things I’d do differently. I’d pay Mayzlin to do the packing. I’m not good at it, their crew had to repack my boxes on the day, and the packing service would have cost me less stress than the $100 of supplies plus the hour of watching strangers redo my work. And if I were moving into the start of a new job again, I’d take the expedited delivery they offered rather than spending five days wishing the truck would arrive.
The other thing worth saying is that I moved in January. Off-peak matters. A lot of what I’m praising here, the fast callbacks, the patient updates, the crew with time to repack my boxes, is easier for any company to deliver in winter than in June. Mayzlin is a good company and my timing helped them look like a great one.
One more thing I’d tell anyone: stay in the room. I was present for the whole load, which is how I saw the painting get packed properly and how I knew what the extra charge was for. If you’re in another room or out running errands, you lose the chance to speak up.
