Interstate Moving and Relocation Group Inc: Pros and Cons Summary:

We have identified some of the company’s primary strengths and weaknesses.

The Good:  Well-Established Nationwide Network

IMRG has been in the business for many years and has built relationships with motor carriers, automobile transport companies, and labor providers across the country. This allows for better service and excellent responsiveness for those moving on short notice.

The Bad:  Some Poor Communications Between Sales Staff and Customers

Many of those who complained did not fully understand the terms of the agreement they entered with the IMRG representative. Common issues involved the delivery date for interstate moves, the date when the moving would begin, the cancellation policy and deposit terms, and confusion regarding the meaning of a binding estimate.

  • They diligently investigate the background and pre-screen all carriers that they work with
  • Currently will coordinate moving projects nationwide across the continental U.S.
  • IMRG has implemented security measures to protect the privacy of all customer information
  • They provide some free helpful resources, including a moving preparation checklist.

  • The website has some pop-ups prompting visitors to call, which are annoying
  • Currently does not have customer service or support available on weekends
  • They do not currently offer any storage unit options

Cost and Affordability

Although they do not market themselves as the “lowest-priced” option, IMRG boasts of having established a nationwide network of motor carriers and labor providers that leverages economies of scale to negotiate excellent rates that are passed along to customers. They have a blog post explaining how other brokers use “low-ball” quotes upfront, and later the price is increased, which creates a potential “hostage” load of belongings. Compared to other brokers of similar expertise, they offer very competitive prices.

You can request a free quote on their online form by entering all details and creating a detailed inventory of household items to be moved to the new home. The actual quote does require a phone call with a sales representative.

Deposit / Cancellation Policies

Customers may make their deposit using the website with a credit card or via electronic check. Once a customer has formally entered an agreement with IMRG, they must notify the organization in writing within 72 hours to maintain eligibility for a fully refundable deposit. Regardless, all deposits made using a credit card are subject to a 4% cancellation fee. Cancellations made within five business days of the moving date window are not refundable. You can apply the deposit to any future move within the next 12-months only.

Customer Reviews & Feedback

IMRG has more than 600 reviews on Google with an overall rating of 4.1 of 5. The overall feedback is positive.  Several customers commented that they were impressed by the organization’s response time in coordinating a move through IMRG on only a couple of days of advanced notice.

Since the company is a broker, they hire professional movers that are authorized motor carriers by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), to handle the move itself. But those movers are not directly employed by IMRG. While this is a common practice in the moving industry it may catch some customers off guard who are unfamiliar with this model. However, IMRG is very transparent about its role as a broker.

On Yelp, they have more than 50 customer reviews with an overall rating of 2.5 out of 5. Several customers felt that the company representative was very friendly and professional throughout the moving process. A few reviews involve customers who received damaged items, or were unsatisfied with the disassembly or unpacking process.

While they are accredited with the Department of Transportation (DOT), IMRG is currently not accredited with the Better Business Bureau (BBB). However, it has an overall BBB rating of B-. A company representative does generally respond to all complaints in an effort to resolve any concerns. The BBB has received a total of 83 complaints regarding IMRG, with 39 of these reported in the past 12 months.

The following chart contains a summary of the types of complaints received by the BBB:

Nature of the Complaint Number (Total) of Complaints
Related to Advertising or Sales 10
Problems with Billing 5
Delivery Problems 15
Related to Warranties or Guarantees 2
Product or Service Problems 15

Should You Consider Interstate Moving & Relocation Group Inc for a Move?

The bottom line is that, within an industry that can often lead to scams or dissatisfaction from customers,  IMRG is a great and reputable company to trust with your moving needs. They have been around for roughly 25 years and have established and have maintained an excellent motor carrier network that has helped thousands of customers move to new locations across the country. Most customers reported high-quality and hassle-free experiences.

IMRG provides customers with binding estimates after the customer completes the inventory template and speaks with a representative. Many customers misinterpret the meaning of the term “binding.” A lot of people think that means that no further pricing changes may occur. In reality, the company bases these estimates on the anticipated cubic feet of space that the inventory contents will occupy in the truck. Once the motor carrier has fully loaded the transport vehicle, the cubic feet of space used are calculated, which may differ from the estimate.
