Who qualifies

Every Certified mover must meet these requirements:

  • Carriers only, no brokers. Only household-goods carriers can hold the badge. Moving brokers are not eligible.
  • Minimum operating history. At least one year in operation under the current authority.
  • Licensed. All state and federal licensing required for the moves they perform, including a USDOT number where required.
  • Insured. Insurance that meets state requirements for local moves. Long-distance movers must also meet the minimums in the interstate addendum below.
  • Background-checked crews. All crew members are background-checked.
  • Verified business. A verified physical business address and a website that accurately lists licensing, address, and services.

What Certified movers agree to

Every Certified mover signs the moveBuddha commitment standards letter and agrees to the following. Long-distance movers also agree to the interstate addendum below.

Pricing

Transparent pricing. All rates, fees, and accessorial charges are disclosed in writing in the customer’s paperwork before the move. No undisclosed fees.
Clear local rates. For local moves, the hourly rate, hourly minimum, minimum crew size, and any per-mile or travel charges are disclosed up front.

How verification works

  1. Apply. The mover submits the Certified application, including business license and insurance documents.
  2. Document review. moveBuddha reviews licensing, insurance, and pricing documents.
  3. Business verification. moveBuddha verifies the company’s address, ownership, operating history, and online presence.
  4. Site inspection. moveBuddha inspects the mover’s place of business.
  5. Signed commitment. The mover signs the moveBuddha commitment standards letter.
  6. Badge activation. The Certified badge appears on the mover’s moveBuddha profile and quotes, and on the mover’s own website, linked to their moveBuddha profile.
  7. Ongoing monitoring. Certification is not a one-time check. moveBuddha continues to monitor every Certified mover (see below).

Oversight and accountability

  • Continuous monitoring. Licensing and insurance status are monitored daily. Every Certified mover is fully re-verified each month.
  • Review monitoring. moveBuddha monitors reviews across platforms for signs of manipulation, including unusual removals or edits.
  • Random audits. moveBuddha conducts random audits of calls, quotes, customer complaints, and paperwork such as estimates, bills of lading, and scale tickets. moveBuddha may also join jobs in person.
  • Probation and removal. A mover that misses standards enters a 30-day corrective probation. The badge can be suspended or revoked for unresolved or severe violations, such as undisclosed fees, misrepresentation, or poor customer service.

If there’s an issue

  1. Contact your mover first with your job number and the details.
  2. If it isn’t resolved, contact moveBuddha with your documentation. Our team will mediate and advocate for you.
  3. Eligible customers may receive up to $1,000 in added move coverage, above the mover’s own coverage, plus hands-on support to reach a fair outcome.

Interstate Moving Addendum

Certified movers that perform interstate or long-distance moves agree to everything above, plus the following.

  • Federal operating authority. An active MC number in addition to the USDOT number.
  • Insurance minimums. Auto liability of at least $750,000, general liability of at least $1M, and motor truck cargo coverage at or above $5,000 per vehicle and $10,000 per occurrence.
  • Visual inventories. Inventories are collected through an on-site visit or video tour. An estimate without a visual inventory is allowed only in extreme circumstances.
  • Binding estimates by default. Estimates are binding or binding-not-to-exceed by default. Non-binding estimates are allowed only as a documented exception, with the customer’s written acknowledgment of why a binding estimate couldn’t be provided.
  • Long-distance rate disclosure. Long-carry, stair, shuttle, and other long-distance accessorial rates are listed in the customer’s paperwork.
  • Honest delivery windows. Customers get an accurate, good-faith delivery window. Storage-in-transit and first-available-delivery practices are clearly explained.
