Moving Experience: Cameron’s Move with Solomon & Sons

In June 2025, Cameron and his young family were preparing to move from New Orleans to Arlington, TX for his new job.

Cameron got quotes from several moving companies, including full-service movers, moving container companies, and even moving labor companies. After evaluating several different options, Cameron ultimately chose Solomon & Sons, a full-service mover.

Early on during his search for a moving company, Cameron also came across moveBuddha and our Better Moves Project. In exchange for a $500 stipend, he agreed to share his family’s moving experience, which ultimately ended up with more complications than he expected.

Here’s a closer look at what happened with Cameron’s move.

Move day takeaways for Solomon & Sons customers

  • Communication: While Solomon & Son’s agents were initially professional, communication went downhill after that. For example, he didn’t get 24-hour notification of his pickup, and had to call the company to get a pickup time. Cameron struggled to get meaningful support from his service rep as he dealt with delays and potential last-minute fees.
  • Pricing accuracy and transparency: When the pickup crew arrived, Cameron found that many of his items hadn’t been included in the inventory. Their supervisor wanted to charge an extra $2,700 in fees for these items, but after an hour of back and forth with Solomon & Sons, Cameron got them to stick with their original quote.
  • Timeliness: Pickup was originally scheduled for June 24, but didn’t happen until June 26. Solomon & Sons originally wanted to do a late-night pickup on the 25th (delayed from the time they initially gave), which wouldn’t work with Cameron’s newborn. However, his belongings were delivered to his new home the day after his move.
  • Professionalism: Cameron felt that the workers who did the actual moving labor were superb. However, he felt deceived by Solomon & Son’s sales rep and had multiple issues when trying to resolve concerns with the company’s moving coordinators.
  • Loss and damage: None of Cameron’s belongings were lost or damaged.
  • Would Cameron use Solomon & Sons again? No. Due to the lack of a dedicated customer service agent, pickup delays with a sub-contracted moving crew, and disputes over additional fees, Cameron felt this was the worst move he had experienced.

Cameron needed help moving from New Orleans to Arlington, TX

While a new job and bigger home were exciting prospects for Cameron and his wife, moving with their newborn daughter and a dog understandably made things a little more complicated. Because of this, Cameron looked into a wide range of moving options, including full-service movers, moving container companies, and getting help from local moving labor providers.

With a month to plan for their move, Cameron and his wife started packing boxes, as well as selling and donating items they no longer wanted or needed. This way, they were able to consolidate their household items into about 50 boxes.

Going into the move, Cameron was concerned about the possibility of moving scams, particularly with moving companies trying to charge last-minute fees or not providing adequate compensation for damaged items. This was top of mind as he began researching moving companies using moveBuddha, the BBB, and other resources.

Cameron got several quotes before selecting Solomon & Sons

Like many people planning a move, Cameron found conflicting positive and negative reviews for many of the moving companies he researched, especially when looking at reviews on Google and Yelp. Because of this, he decided to get quotes from several different companies so he could compare prices and services.

This proved to be very time-consuming (we typically recommend you narrow down your search first and then get three or four quotes). When all was said and done, Cameron’s quotes ranged from under $1,000 for labor-only support to $7,500 for a full-service move.

Cameron chose Solomon & Sons for their pricing and services

Cameron’s video call with Solomon & Sons’ sales rep played a big role in why he decided to choose them. During the call, the rep explained how their company would color-code boxes for inventorying, as well as wrap furniture and put cardboard protectors on the corners to prevent damage. The rep also showed off Solomon & Sons’ clean facility and appeared to be upfront about pricing and policies.

They then did a video walkthrough, after which the sales rep provided an initial bid. Cameron countered with a lower bid he had received, at which point the sales rep detailed items that had been missed in the other bid. He warned Cameron that this was a common scam tactic used to charge last-minute fees. However, they still negotiated a lower price, which Cameron felt satisfied with.

In addition to moving labor and transportation, Cameron’s estimate included furniture disassembly and reassembly, shuttle services, and basic insurance. His sales rep told him that his move would be handled by Solomon & Sons directly, and that they never contracted their work out to other companies.

Moving day had delays and disputes over extra fees

While Cameron initially felt good after getting his move set up with the sales agent, things quickly went downhill in the leadup to moving day.

Pick-up delays

While Cameron was told he would receive a phone call 24 hours before his scheduled pickup on June 24, that never happened. When Cameron decided to call Solomon & Sons, he was told the moving crew would arrive on the afternoon of the 25th. As it turned out, the company had put a two-day pickup window on his contract, something the sales rep hadn’t told him about.

However, after being given an arrival window of 3-5PM on the 25th, Cameron got a call from the driver that they wouldn’t arrive until 7 or 8 PM. With a newborn in the home, starting the move at that time simply wouldn’t work for his family. After some more back and forth with the company, he got the move rescheduled to the morning of the 26th. Despite an arrival window of 8-10 AM, the movers didn’t arrive until close to 11.

Extra fees

When the movers finally arrived, Cameron was surprised to see the truck was from American Knights – not Solomon & Sons. This led to additional confusion with the foreman over submitting the pickup fee via Zelle, and Cameron had to confirm with Solomon & Sons if he should actually be paying money to American Knights. This went directly against what his sales rep had told him.

Worse still, the moving foreman quoted an extra $2,700 in fees at this time. When Cameron looked over the inventory the Solomon & Sons sales rep had sent to American Knights, he saw that several major items were missing, including a couch. This led to an additional hour of back and forth with the company before they finally agreed to the originally quoted fee, since Cameron had done an inventory both over the phone and on FaceTime. This felt very similar to the scam tactics the sales rep had warned him about when he received his quote.

Unhelpful service reps

The entire time Cameron tried to resolve these issues on the phone, he found Solomon & Sons’ service reps to be unhelpful. At one point, the service rep refused to answer more questions and told him she needed to help other customers. All of this made moving day far more stressful than anticipated.

Loading crew was incredible

If nothing else, Cameron found that even though the foreman didn’t help with the move itself, the two men who actually loaded his items on the truck were incredible. They were courteous, worked quickly, and wrapped his items with blankets for protection.

Drop-off was quick and efficient

After all the trouble that Cameron experienced with pickup, delivery was fortunately much smoother. The delivery crew arrived at Cameron’s new home in Texas the day after they picked up his belongings in New Orleans – an impressive feat by any measure! They arrived in a timely manner at 8:30 in the morning.

Ultimately, the drop-off exceeded expectations. The movers who handled Cameron’s belongings brought everything into the new house safely and efficiently. They did such a good job that Cameron wished he could have just hired them for labor instead of doing the full move through Solomon & Sons.

Another win – none of Cameron’s items were lost or damaged during the move. This was fortunate, since he had no followup from Solomon & Sons after the delivery. Even when he tried to reach out to the company, he couldn’t get ahold of his service rep, and he never heard back.

The verdict – how did Solomon & Sons stack up?

First, the good news: the movers who actually handled Cameron’s belongings did an excellent job at both ends of the move. They treated his items with care and worked efficiently.

However, the rest of the move left a lot to be desired. Cameron felt that much of the move was filled with promises that never came to fruition. Being warned about shady attempts to tack on last minute fees, only to experience that himself, was a major issue. Repeated delays for the initial pickup, along with unhelpful support from the Solomon & Sons service rep, also added extra stress to the move.

While Cameron was thrilled with the workers who handled his items, the rest of the experience fell well below expectations. In retrospect, he would have rather rented a U-Haul and hired moving labor, or worked with a more expensive company that didn’t have so many issues.

Here’s how Cameron rated Solomon & Sons on a scale of 1 to 5:

  • Communication: 2
  • Timeliness: 1
  • Quote accuracy: 1
  • Overall experience: 1
Because of Cameron’s stressful and frustrating experience, he would not use Solomon & Sons again.

Cameron’s advice for anyone planning a move like his

Reflecting on his move, Cameron wishes he had gone through his contract from Solomon & Sons more thoroughly. This would have helped him spot the two-day pickup window that wasn’t verbalized during his sales call. He also wishes he would have gone through the inventory list so he could have identified missing items in advance and avoided money disputes on moving day.

Because of his own experiences, Cameron strongly advises anyone else planning a move to carefully review their moving contract. This includes comparing the initial contract to what you actually sign, just in case of any changes. He also encourages would-be movers to be willing to stand up for themselves and know their rights when facing stressful moving situations.
