Other ways to move in Mississippi

Although a professional mover will offer the most convenience and expertise, a rental truck or a moving container company may be a better choice for you.

Rental truck: You may be familiar with U-Haul, these are the cheapest options but require you to handle the entire moving process yourself.
Moving containers: These are companies like PODS, more expensive than truck rentals but cheaper than professional movers. With these companies, you load the containers and they drive them to your new home.

Considerations for moving to Mississippi

Mississippi is a state with southern hospitality, delicious comfort food, mild winters, low cost of living, and nice beaches so it makes sense to want to move there. These are some of the things to keep in mind to help your move to the The Magnolia State go smoothly:

Weather: Mississippi has a humid subtropical climate with long, hot, and humid summers, and short, mild winters. The temperature varies little statewide in the summer; however, in winter, the region near Mississippi Sound is significantly warmer than the inland portion of the state. The late summer and fall is the seasonal period of risk for hurricanes moving inland from the Gulf of Mexico, especially in the southern part of the state. As in the rest of the Deep South, thunderstorms are common in Mississippi, especially in the southern part of the state. On average, Mississippi has around 27 tornadoes annually; the northern part of the state has more tornadoes earlier in the year and the southern part has a higher frequency later in the year. If you are planning your move during the summertime be sure to check your local weather station.
HOA Rules: Many neighborhoods and communities have rules about moving, have a smooth transition to your new home by checking ahead of time.
Elevator Reservation: If you’re moving to a building with an elevator, there may be things you need to know ahead of time such as using a service elevator, time restrictions, or reservations.
Parking Permits: Some cities have rules about parking large vehicles. Check with your new city ahead of time to ensure you have everything in order.
State Licensing: Like in many other states, movers in Mississippi are regulated by the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT). When considering hiring a local mover, you’ll want to check that they have an up-to-date MSPC Number. If they do, it means that they’re authorized to move household goods within the state. All of the movers on our list are fully licensed.
State Regulator: You can verify a Mississippi moving license and its status on the state regulator's official website.
Change of Address: You should submit your change of address form with USPS at least a week prior to your move. You can set an official move date on the form and this way all of your mail will get properly forward to Mississippi.
Mover's Insurance: Every state has its own requirements when it comes to insurance. Released Value Protection is the most economical option because it doesn’t cost anything. It is offered by movers at no additional charge, but the protection is minimal. Under this option, the mover is responsible for no more than 60 cents per pound per article. For example, if your mover lost or damaged a 50 inch TV weighing 25 pounds, you would only receive $15 (60 cents x 25 pounds). If you need for the full value of your items to be covered, please consult with the moving company you're hiring for other options or a third-party insurance provider.
