Other ways to move in Michigan
Although a professional mover will offer the most convenience and expertise, a rental truck or a moving container company may be a better choice for you.
Rental truck: You may be familiar with U-Haul,
these are the cheapest options but require you to handle the entire moving process yourself.
Moving containers: These are companies like PODS,
more expensive than truck rentals but cheaper than professional movers.
With these companies, you load the containers and they drive them to your new home.

Considerations for moving to Michigan
Michigan is a state with scenic beauty, good higher education, bountiful recreational opportunities, low cost of living, and beautiful lakes so it makes sense to want to move there. These are some of the things to keep in mind to help your move to the Wolverine State go smoothly:
Weather: Michigan has a continental climate, although there are two distinct regions. The southern and central parts of the Lower Peninsula (south of Saginaw Bay and from the Grand Rapids area southward) have a warmer climate with hot summers and cold winters. The northern part of the Lower Peninsula and the entire Upper Peninsula has a more severe climate (Köppen Dfb), with warm, but shorter summers and longer, cold to very cold winters. Some parts of the state average high temperatures below freezing from December through February, and into early March in the far northern parts. During the winter through the middle of February, the state is frequently subjected to heavy lake-effect snow.
The state averages 30 days of thunderstorm activity per year. These can be severe, especially in the southern part of the state. The state averages 17 tornadoes per year, which are more common in the state's extreme southern section.
HOA Rules: Many neighborhoods and communities have rules about moving, have a smooth transition to your new home by checking ahead of time.
Elevator Reservation: If you’re moving to a building with an elevator,
there may be things you need to know ahead of time such as using a service elevator, time restrictions, or reservations.
Parking Permits: Some cities have rules about parking large vehicles.
Check with your new city ahead of time to ensure you have everything in order.
State Licensing: The agency regulating local and intrastate household goods movers in Michigan is the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC).
State regulation and oversight activities include commercial vehicle registration and safety compliance, review of published tariff rates, licensing, and consumer protection efforts. All of the movers on our list are fully licensed.
State Regulator: You can verify a Michigan moving license
and its status on the state regulator's official website.
Change of Address: You should submit your change of address form with USPS
at least a week prior to your move. You can set an official move date on the form and this way all of your mail will get properly forward to Michigan.
Mover's Insurance: Every state has its own requirements when it comes to insurance. Released Value Protection is the most economical option because it doesn’t cost anything. It is offered by movers at no additional charge, but the protection is minimal. Under this option, the mover is responsible for no more than 60 cents per pound per article. For example, if your mover lost or damaged a 50 inch TV weighing 25 pounds, you would only receive $15 (60 cents x 25 pounds). If you need for the full value of your items to be covered, please consult with the moving company you're hiring for other options or a third-party insurance provider.
